A Multitude of Muddlement.

November 24

The post-Thanksgiving entry.

I hope everybody who celebrated had a wonderful feast. We spent the better part of the late morning/early afternoon at our church's potluck dinner, so there was absolutely no danger of not finding plenty of good food. I'm thinking next year, they should do a sign up for specific dishes though, so we don't end up with 9 crockpots of mashed potatoes again. After the potluck, we stayed at home where Mike watched the football game and I fell into a tryptophan induced coma.

This morning, I did something I swore I would never do: I went to Wal-Mart on Black Friday. It really wasn't as bad as I had anticipated, but that largely has something to do with the fact that we knew what we were going in for and didn't stick around to shop. We were in and out in 10 minutes - and stood outside in line to get in for 15 minutes. After that, it was over to JCPenney's and breakfast at a diner before I had to take Mike in to work. He got to sit around and be bored at work while I braved the crowds at the mall... although I
did get the first parking spot in front of the door when I got there. Was it all worth it? Absolutely. We're done with all our gifts, and I've got everything I'm getting for Mike this year.

Now it's time to nibble on some leftover turkey and maybe take a nap :P

argh.

Reason number 247 that I can't wait to move out of this apartment:

I've spent the entire morning baking cookies and making green bean casserole. Mike came home at lunch to start one of the turkeys, and as it turns out, the roaster blows the fuse. There are 2, maybe 3 circuits in this house. In the morning, Mike can't iron his clothes without turning the ceramic heater off. We can't run the microwave with the downstairs ceramic heater on (I actually put a note on the microwave to remind us of this). In order to have the roaster functioning, I had to turn off the ceramic heater, the furnace, and my desktop computer. Whoever wired this house needs to have their head examined.

At least I haven't burned too many of the cookies... don't even get me started on the oven rant :P

interesting

In an attempt to beat the day-before-Thanksgiving crowd at the grocery store, I went tonight. It was a bit crowded, but not nearly as bad as I know tomorrow will be. Even still, I got the last two bags of brown sugar and the last two boxes of store brand butter. I had a stupid moment and didn't make a note of the total amount of ingredients I need for all the cookies, so I'm hoping that what I got is going to be enough. I had to stock up on all the baking basic ingredients because what we did have was contaminated by insulation during the kitchen fiasco, but thankfully that stuff all comes cheap. Tomorrow will be spent baking oodles of cookies (regular old chocolate chip, white chocolate macademia, cinnamon coffee, and maple nut (which is actually going to be vanilla nut since the store didn't have maple extract)), making green bean casserole (with a twist!), and two turkeys.

Our wedding photographer is also coming over in the evening with our photos, and if he's lucky, he'll get to go home with cookies :)

WE GOT THE HOUSE!
November 20

i don't normally do this...

...but I really want this house that we looked at over the weekend, so if y'all could send some good wishes and luck our way, I'd really appreciate it. Unfortunately, the house is in a highly desirable area, and we can't afford to get into a bidding war. Mike has called our realtor to make an offer on the house, so now we wait.

oh please oh please oh please....
